About Us
The Asociacion Nacional De Musica Latino Americana (ANMLA) is a non-profit organization who believes that the preservation of Latin American music is culturally vital. Our efforts include a wide range of music related projects around Chicago as a way of introducing and revitalizing Latin American big band music to a new generation.
One such endeavor, The Academy "Las Americas", provides free music education to the underprivileged youth of the Chicagoland area. Students ages 10-18 are taught to play an instrument used within the Latin American Music Orquesta, how to read music, and perform with other students or experienced musicians in a Latin American Orquesta.
We believe music uplifts people and brings them together. We also think learning to play an instrument is a skill that should be afforded to everyone. It brings confidence, teaches teamwork, and encourages focus. It keeps children engaged in a worthwhile activity and working toward a goal.
We trust that our organization can shape and change the lives of our students. We see them using music as a stepping stone to receive scholarships, see the world, and teach what they've learned to others. In this way our mission and our culture will live on.
